We encourage you to reach out to us to start a conversation regarding your interests in applying for a grant. We understand that the application process is a significant undertaking, and we want to provide the guidance you need to make decisions as to whether to apply and what might help to merit successful results. We make every effort to be transparent about project fit, funding priorities, and application procedures. 

Eligibility

Please review each grant program’s descriptions, eligibility requirements, and FAQ before starting your LOI.

Grant applications are welcome from organizations whose work aligns with our mission and priority areas. For all grant programs, this includes a focus on our local and regional food systems. Additionally, our iCAP programs also consider applications from arts and culture organizations and those serving rural communities. Organizations applying for grants must be headquartered within the 7 counties of WNY: Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Niagara, and Wyoming.

We do not award grants to individuals, unless otherwise specified; religious organizations for religious purposes; political organizations, campaigns, and candidates; and municipal and government. We do not award grants for endowments; scholarships; capital campaigns; or operating expenses.

  • This program provides funding and support to nonprofit organizations that would like to improve their capacity to achieve their mission and do transformative work within the food system.

  • iCAP Core a tailored program designed for emerging and smaller nonprofits, providing them with a comprehensive understanding of capacity building and its influence on both internal and external facets of their organization.

    iCAP Core is an intensive coaching program focused on the importance of building a strong relationship between the Executive Director and Board Chair, resulting in a greater appreciation of the power of this relationship when developed through best practices. In addition, the program includes intensive board education and development that will enhance the board’s understanding of their roles and responsibility, particularly related to securing the necessary resources toward mission accomplishment.

  • iCAP is an 8 to 10-month, team-based approach to strengthening internal organizational capacity.

    Multiple members of the organization's staff and board will participate in organizational self-assessments of key capacity elements that have been designed to pinpoint current capacity status and opportunities for transformative growth and change. Results will be examined with the help of a consultant and culminate in a long-term capacity building plan for the organization that includes the development of action plan priorities with goals and progress measurement.
